Locked.

William plotted his escape in grievous detail. He made lists of towns he could live in, jobs he could work, clothes he could wear, cars he could drive, names he could assume, music he could listen to, hobbies he could pursue, women he could explore. He collected magazine articles, pictures, brochures and printed off information from the internet.

At 6pm every day he looked through his plan, made the changes that had occurred to him during the day or that his research had uncovered. At 6.20pm every day he locked the notes in the bottom drawer of his desk. At 6.25pm every day he locked these thoughts tightly in his mind and started the journey home.
